Template updated

The previous version of this template pointed to images hosted on GooglePages, which no longer exists. I've now moved the images to my Picasa account, and I've updated the download to point to the latest location of the images.

You can now download the updated template.

City in Paint Beta - available for download

The City in Paint template (for the new Blogger), is currently in Beta. Here's the download link -

Download this template

Download and use at your own risk. This template is free, and comes with no warranties whatsoever. Testing is not yet complete, and I don't have detailed installation instructions yet, so please create a temporary blog to test this out. Do note, that this template will only work if you're using Layouts based templates on the new Blogger.

If Blogger asks you to confirm deleting any widgets or elements, and you don't know what that means, then WAIT until my instructions are ready.

This sample blog is full of posts with junk content of various lengths and with various styles, to demo the template. So please check the different pages out. Any feedback about behaviour on different browsers, specially Macs, would be appreciated.

Almost done!

This is a new template that uses the Layouts system in the new Blogger.

I'm almost done testing in Firefox 2, Opera 8.5, IE 7, IE 6, IE 5.5 and IE 5.01 all on Windows. I don't own a Mac, so any help from Mac owners would be appreciated.

Give this blog a spin, and let me know if anything isn't working as you would expect.

If you're feeling confident and would like to try the template out, drop a comment here.

Installing this template

I recommend creating a temporary blog to test this template first. Once you've done that, follow these instructions -

  1. Download the template file (find the link in the sidebar), and save it to your computer
  2. Login to your Blogger/Google account
  3. Go to the dashboard of your blog
  4. Select "Layout" on the blog where you want to install the template (Once again, I recommend using a temporary blog first)
  5. Go to Edit HTML
  6. Click on "Expand Widget Templates"
  7. Under "Upload a template from a file on your hard drive:", click "Browse" and select the template file that you saved.
  8. Click on Upload
  9. If Blogger prompts you that you are about to delete some widgets, then stop, and click on Cancel
  10. Manually add the mentioned widgets to the saved template file.
  11. Upload the template file again
  12. Check the blog to see if the layout looks okay, if the labels on the left look broken, try uploading the template file one more time

These instructions are still not complete, so use them at your own risk!

1024x768

This template is designed to work at a resolution of 1024x768 and will have a horizontal scroll-bar at lower resolutions. 10% of the visitors on my blog have a screen resolution of 800x600 and below. So this template is not for everyone. Do consider this fact before choosing this template.
